Mail on Sunday responds to criticism

The Mail on Sunday has responded to criticism against it following the exposure of its article concerning a female blogger and her post about working for the air traffic control.

Sebastian Hamilton, Editor of the Mail, responded to the criticism, telling Journalism.co.uk that the paper had responded to Melanie Schregardus(the blogger) complaints.

A statement from the Mail said:

Some months ago Mrs Schregardus published a 500-word account of her experiences as a female air traffic controller on an internet blog that was open to millions of people around the world to read. Mrs Schregardus made no effort to restrict the viewing. In the week air traffic controllers staged a four-hour walk-out, it provided a fascinating insight into working conditions in a job that was obviously of major public interest.

The Mail goes on to defend itself against complaints they didn’t even notify the blogger.

They claim they tried to notify her via Twitter, which they claim is the only way they had of contacting her, even though her blog had comment functions.

They also say they did not take the picture of her from Facebook, but from an online magazine, Issuu.com.

The Mail are obviously trying to cover their asses here.

Its obvious if you read the article they published and compare it with Melanie’s post.

The Mail have twisted this bloggers words in what appears to be an effort to attack air traffic control over the recent strike.
