Pat Robertson a man for all seasons

Following on from the article “Televangelist response to Haiti tragedy “they swore a pact with the devil”, here are some fun facts about Pat Robertson.

Pat Robertson (Born Marion Gordon Robertson) is a highly influential Televangalist and host of the popular 700 club t.v. show.

Robertson has proven to be no stranger to controversy. Here’s a small sampling of what he’s all about.
1. Pat Robertson controls Hurricanes:

In 1985 Robertson claimed that he had diverted the course of Hurricane Gloria and altered its route so the his head quarters in Huntington Beach Virginia would remain unharmed. He made similar remarks about hurricane felix in 1995. However, in 2003 Hurricane Isabel did hit his headquarters despite his prayers. And in relation to hurricane Katerina, he believes it was caused by abortion.

2. Pat Robertson Does not like Scotland:

In 1999 Robertson was quoted as having said” Scotland is a dark land overrun with Homosexuals”. This caused the Bank of Scotland to stop plans for a planned joint business venture with Robertson.

3.Pat Robertson isn’t fond of Islam:
Robertson has very often defamed and denounced Islam. In a 1995 taping of the 700 club he refered to Islam as ” A Christian heresy” and labeled the prophet Mohammed ” An absolute wild eyed fanatic….a robber and a brigand”.

4.Questionable Liberian Buissiness interests:
On the 700 show Robertson often turned his attention to former Liberian president Charles Taylor. During the U.S.A.’s involvment in the second Liberian war, Robertson repeatedly voiced his support for President Taylor. Robertson, whom owened a goldmine in Liberia, repeatedly called upon then President George Bush Jnr to end U.S. Military involvment in Liberia.

President Taylors trial at the U.N. is ongoing. Amongst the charges leveled against Charles Taylor are war crimes including inciting his troops to commit cannibalism and ordering human sacrifices.
