It’s been another one of those weeks…

So here’s a brief roundup! First off, two bits of site news.

Nominated for the Irish Blog Awards

Yes, yes. The site has been officially announced as a nominee for Best Newcomer in the 2010 Irish Blog Awards.

You can see the full listing HERE.

As I said on the Forums, thanks to everyone that voted. This is great and makes everything worth while.

New Team Member

If you look at the forums, you may have noticed Competitions and Bargain alerts.

In creating this we have a new team member who busies herself with finding all sorts of great goodies, bargains, competitions and freebies for you all.

So welcome to Kerash!

App Stores Comparisons

Since exposing the Ovi store charging for a free mobile application, there has been more talk of Application Stores. The following image shows that Nokia seriously falls behind with free applications.

Poor Drug Dealers feeling the pinch

The Irish Times reported that drug dealers are being hurt by the recession and are turning to a new source of income, cigarette smuggling.

Casting aside the evils of cocaine, smugglers are moving into black market cigarettes.

And sure why not. A common price for black market smokes is four Euros, compared to over 8 if you buy them legitimately.

And the dealers can get them abroad for as little as 50c a pack.

A Garda has talked out, saying there isn’t the same money in it and that coke is where the money is at.

If the government hadn’t been so greedy and hadn’t taxed cigarettes so highly (for our own protection, of course) they could be raking in the profits instead of it going to the naughty men. Oh well.

Canadian Mouse-Pig…or is the Pig-Mouse…

The Canadian government is on the verge of approving genetically modified piggies for the friendly North-Folk to chow down.

The pigs have been spliced with mice so that they down emit so many planet damaging things in their poop.

Buzz about phones

From the Nexus One being able to run popular Facebook game Farmville to the Windows Mobile 7 phones, there’s been lots of talking about phones this week.

Some of the excitement was coming from Boards when Expansys had the Nexus One advertised for free on their site. After many people signed up for the freebie (many knowing they would probably not get the bargain) Expansys realised their mistake and reversed the price mistake and the phone is now 585 Euros.
