Not satisfied with the big battle that was Draw Mohammed Day and blocking the web, Pakistan are once again whining about other peoples views of Islam and what they deem blasphemy.

First off, Mark Zuckerberg is probably wiping a bead of sweat from his brow as news comes that Pakistani courts are looking into a blasphemy charge against him that could result in death for the Facebook founder.

Zuckerberg is being charged under the Pakistani penal code Section 295-C, which goes on to say: “Use of derogatory remark etc, in respect of the Holy Prophet, whoever by words, either spoken or written, or by visible representation, or by any imputation, innuendo, or insinuation, directly or indirectly, defiles the sacred name of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) shall be punished with death, or imprisonment for life, and shall also be liable for fine.”

While Zuckerberg had not in his wildest thought of representing the Prophet in a derogatory manner, his website was used to do so – and thereby making him a party to the offence.

TechTree

Not only are they completely over reacting, they are now monitoring and blocking content on Yahoo, Google, YouTube, Amazon, MSN, Hotmail and Bing.

A spokesman for the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority said “If any particular link with offensive content appears on these websites, the (link) shall be blocked immediately without disturbing the main website.”

A spokesman for Google responded, saying Google will be monitoring how it affects their services. “”Google and YouTube are platforms for free expression, and we try to allow as much … content as possible on our services and still ensure that we enforce our policies.”

Despite the order being official, local journalists have been unable to get copies of it from the Ministry of Information Technology, which has already begun the process of barring and monitoring the various sites.

The Telegraph

Pakistan, seriously, get over it and stop being jerks.

(i love that motivational pic)

Yeah Yeah, i know we’ve been covering Pirate Bay a lot, but they’re the ones doing stuff, or, to be precise, having stuff done to them.

Latest Irish involvement: Eircom is to block the site for all their users.

Under an out-of-court agreement with EMI Records, Sony Music, Universal Music and Warners in January, Eircom agreed to cut off customers found to be repeatedly downloading music illegally. The deal also required Eircom to cut off access to Pirate Bay if requested.

Yes, even when the Bay is about to go legit, Eircom, proving to be still in the 20th century, are rocking up on white horses and shielding their users from the evil pirates.

But really, Eircom aren’t all to blame. I mean, sure, they are bending over when the other ISPs are saying hellll no like Will Smith surrounded by alien rug dealing zombies eating cute kids. The blame is to be given to… You guessed it :

IRMA and the Irish High Court! Round of applause if you got that one.

Yes, seems the High Court has less pressing internet concerns and is being used as a tool of IRMA.

Remember IRMA, the guys that want us all monitored in case we get the faintest whiff of music for free?

But why target the Bay? They’re one (now high profile) site on a sea of evil stealing interwebs.

Dick Doyle, of the Irish Recorded Music Association, an umbrella body for the industry, said Pirate Bay was being targeted as it was the largest abuser of copyright on the internet.

What about Google? You can use Google to do your torrent searches Dick. Why not block Google. And Yahoo. And every search engine.

Personally, if people leave Eircom because of this, fair enough. I don’t think they’re a great service provider anyway.

But i hope that this is just some way for Eircom to get IRMA off their backs. People could (and will) find a way around this. To me, it makes more sense to believe Eircom don’t really care about the Bay, and are just trying to get away from the pain in the ass that is IRMA.

So far, UPC and BT have both said they won’t be following Eircoms lead. And more power to them.

And remember the users of TPB downloading the entire site just in case?

Look what theyve already done: Linky

Also, want to see what Joe Soap thinks? Link
