The leaving of Mr Lee
Questions have been asked of George Lee and his retirement from Irish Politics this week. The ones which seem to crop up again and again are that of Enda Kenny’s leadership and the topic of Lee’s expectations. I would like to in my own small and deranged way like to address these topics.
Enda Kenny’s leadership of the opposition can only be described as a gigantic political clusterfuck the size and magnitude of which has not been seen since the age of the emperor Caligula. Kenny has the uncanny ability to never capitalise on Fianna fails mistakes. After the tribunals the expenses scandals, the defeats in several referenda, the by-election defeats, the voting machine debacle, and Brian Cowan Fianna Gael have failed to make any significant gains against Fianna Fail. There has been a gigantic Financial blowout in the nation(you may have noticed) where the current governments negligence has led to economic ruin and somehow Enda Kenny has managed to make himself look as appealing as a dose of the clap. Which is an incredible achievement given the sheer brazen fuckery of the current government. If that wasn’t enough Enda Kenny failed to capitalise on NAMA. An opinion poll to be published tomorrow has Fianna Fails popularity at 17% their lowest ever polling that’s perfectly understandable they have been fucking the nation incredibly hard for the last decade or so. However Fianna Gael have managed two drop two points in popularity since the last poll. which is interesting as any party not in power at the moment even if headed by Gengis Khan should be gaining in popularity. Enda Kenny’s personal approval rating has dropped two percent since last polled. How one man can bound so elegantly from failure to failure I will never fully understand.
Now the second question that of George Lee’s expectations in Irish politics. Mr Lee seems to have been suffering from some form of gross delusion that rationality and common sense have a place in Irish politics. They don’t and I personally do not think they ever have or will. George Lee joined Fianna Gael with the express goal of forming an alternative economic policy to the failed one currently in place. At the moment it seems none of the parties have a good coherent economic policy apart from Fianna Fail and there wonderful you give us money and we’ll give it to rich people who have failed in business policy. George Lee apparently had better ideas. We may never know if he did or not. Fianna Gaels current economic policy is the New ERA plan. The Plan is based on energy and infrastructure and may be one of the dullest and most uninspired things I have ever had the misfortune to read. Surely George Lee had something better than this? The plan centres on getting people back to work by building power plants and implementing forestry schemes and insulating houses. However the plans implementation will require increased borrowing and with the second biggest deficit in the E.U this probably won’t happen. In short unless Enda gets the boot or Labour up their game (they went up in the polls by 1% bringing them to 24% and Eamon Gilmore is still the most popular leader with a 47% approval level) Were looking at the Fianna Fail for the next while. Its incredible to think that Fianna Gael didn’t capitalise on a house hold name like George Lee. But what really amazes me is Mr Lee’s naivety he actually expected to be listened to. Irish Politics has no room for people with expertise. He should have known better. Its a chancers game
