Upcoming 2010 Movies

Over the Christmas period I was stuck indoors. I was bored and late at night i started checking out random upcoming film trailers.

Today on the web i saw a pretty good list of films that a site recommended.

The list was pretty close to what I was interested in, so here we are.

Here’s a list of upcoming films we may want to see…

Daybreakers

First thing I noticed about this trailer was Sam Neill. He was excellent in my childhood favourite Jurassic Park and awesome in the film Merlin. Also i think my grandmother had a crush on him… >_>

The film stars Sam Neill, Willem Dafoe and Ethan Hawke, all great actors.

The plot: In the future the world has been divided. Vampires have become the dominant species. But without enough humans to feed on they risk extinction.

Ethan Hawke is a vampire researcher who wants to save both races while working for Sam Neill,  the vampire in control of a powerful organisation.

If the vampires stop feeding off human blood they will lose their human appearance and become demonic monsters.

Many vampires want to hunt the remaining humans, while the humans want to repopulate and ultimately defeat their enemies.

Willem Dafoe is a “cured” vampire who sides with the humans.

Why it might be good: Futuristic and seemingly semi realistic vampires, human resistance fighters, great cast, interesting idea.

The Book of Eli

When we first saw the trailer we posted about it immediately.

Like Daybreakers, BoE has great cast.

Who doesn’t like Mila Kunis?

Denzel Washington plays the hero while Gary Oldman does something he does best, be a baddie. Michael Gambom and Malcom Mc Dowell support.

Plot: The year is 2043 and the planet is a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Eli (Washington) is a wanderer who holds a special book that may hold the key to humanities resurrection. Carnegie (Oldman) is the leader of a town and he wants the book for himself.

Why it might be good: Post Apocalyptic, Mad Max like, Denzel with a machete/sword, cute Mila Kunis, Gary Oldman with a rocket launcher.

The Lovely Bones

This counts a 2009 film as well as 2010. The films release date keeps being changed. At time of posting release is set for January 15th.

The film stars Saoirse Ronan, Mark Wahlberg and Rachel Weisz.

It is based on the 2002 novel by Alice Sebold.

The plot: The heartbreaking premise is sure to make everyone sad, uncomfortable and a multitude of other emotions.

14 year old Susie is murdered and raped. Her murderer successfully covers his tracks although Susie’s (Ronan) father (Wahlberg) suspects him.

Susie watches the events unfold after her death from a heaven like place, as her murderer prepares to strike again.

Why it might be good: Amazing plot, Peter Jackson directing, great actors and a story that will hit everyone in the core of their heart.

Clash of the Titans

Sam Worthington is getting big roles lately. You may remember him from such films as Terminator 4 (which wasn’t as bad as everyone ranted) or Avatar.

Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes also star. So yet another great cast.

Plot: Perseus’ family is killed by Hades. Seeking revenge, the man born of gods but raised by humans leads a group to defeat Hades before he can take Zeus’ throne.

Why it might be good: Look at the graphics! , Leterrier directed some good old fashioned action films, awesome cast, the originally wanted Matt Bellamy to work on the soundtrack.

Legion

Paul Bettany is getting some supernatural action movies lately.

He also stars in the upcoming film Priest, where he battles vampires.

Plot: God forsakes humanity and his judgement is about to be passed on Earth. Archangel Michael (Bettany) is all that stands between humans and the apocalypse. He comes to Earth to protect a pregnant girl who may be carrying the new messiah.

Why it might be good: We loved the prophecy films. Obviously this movie is lacking Chris Walken, but it still may be a good romp. Also angels beating the crap out of each other is always fun.

The Last Airbender

M Night Shyamalan has pissed off lots of people with his constant twists, so this may be a way for him to redeem himself. Based on the popular Nickelodeon series, Avatar, the film looks like it has the potential to be a family epic.

Plot: The film (and show) revolves around Aang, the last of his people. In this world, people can control the elements and are called benders (no laughing down the back!).

Aang is the last Airbender and also is the Avatar, a powerful being that can use all elements. He is pursued by the warlike Fire Nation and joined by two siblings from the Water Nation.

Why it might be good: Shyamalan has lots of potential, but usually craps out, so he’s due a good’un. The film will contain a mix of mythology,epic scenery, battles and martial arts.

Predators

Ever hear about Rodriguez’s idea for a Predator sequel? It had the Preds return, abduct Arnie and throw him in a coliseum with other aliens that had killed predators. Sounded great but was never made.

Plot: So far what’s been whispered about is similar to the original script. A few humans are abducted and taken to an alien world where they are forced to fight.

Why it might be good: This is a project close to Rodriguez’s heart, so you know he’ll put everything he can into it.

Iron Man 2

Robert Downey Jnr is back as Tony Stark in what could be the hit of the year.

Jimmy Rourke ups the anti as villain Whiplash. And we finally get War Machine.

Plot: So far things are being held close to the chests of the makers.

After revealing to the world “I am Iron Man” Tony is pressured to hand the suit over to the government. S.H.I.E.L.D (led by Sammuel L Jackson as Nick Fury) and Iron Man will face powerful new foes.

Why it might be great: The first film was great fun, Robert Downey Jnr is a blast as Stark, War Machine is going to be in it, Mickey Rourke kicks ass, SLJ and Shield will appear, awesome soundtrack, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and there will be more Marvel Goodness than before.
